An object of quiet presence, neither wholly sculpture nor furniture. A tribute to a significant aspect of my great grandfather’s life. Two interconnected pieces, a steel-brushed wooden railway sleeper and a marble piece, are assembled in a delicate balance. The incorporation of the Italian marble piece into the wood serves as a celebration of his unwavering dedication and accomplishments as a stonemason throughout his life. Conversely, the railway sleeper stands as a poignant reminder of his forced labour as a railway worker during World War II.
