ishimorebi 石漏れ日

A shard of broken marble becomes a shade, fractured, yet luminous. Light seeps through its veins, echoing a stillness found in this ancient stone. Supported by a thin, horizontal aluminum profiles, this lamp embraces its raw, experimental nature, exploring the possibility of illuminating marble itself.

To name the quiet phenomenon of light shining through stone, I coined a new Japanese term: Ishimorebi (石漏れ日) – a poetic companion to komorebi, evoking sunlight filtering not through leaves, but through stone.

Carrara marble, aluminium & light, 2023.
